Enzo Guimarães and Luís Miranda, from Escola Básica de Arões Santa Cristina, part of the Fafe School Cluster in the Braga district, were the national winners of the financial literacy competition – European Money Quiz – promoted in Portugal by the Portuguese Banking Association (APB).
Both students, currently in the 9th grade, will now represent Portugal in the European final in Brussels, scheduled for April 18 and 19.
During the national competition, students answered questions on interest rates, risk, investment, and online security, with mathematical calculations posing the greatest challenge.
This year, second place went to the Pombal School Cluster, while the Rio Tinto School Cluster claimed third place on the podium.
This year’s edition of the European Money Quiz reached record numbers in Portugal. Over 60 schools nationwide and more than 5,000 middle school students participated in the largest European financial literacy competition, testing their knowledge on topics such as credit, savings, payment methods, and inflation.
The National Final, which brought together over 100 competitors selected from 60 schools, can be rewatched on the APB’s YouTube channel.
Enzo and Luís will now fly to Brussels for the European final, where they will compete against winners from 25 other countries, aiming to bring the European championship title to Portugal.
Created by the European Banking Federation (EBF) in 2018, the EMQ is a competition designed to test the financial literacy of young Europeans aged 13 to 15. For the seventh consecutive year, the APB, a member of the EBF, has joined this initiative, which in Portugal alone has involved more than 15,000 students since its inception.
