The European Money Quiz (EMQ) is a European competition, played on a computer or mobile phone, to promote financial literacy among young people and test their knowledge on topics such as savings, debt, family budget management and digital security, and more besides.
The competition takes place in two stages. First, the national finals determine the two winners for each country. Then, the European final, where the finalists from the various countries compete head-to-head in Brussels to try to win the title of European EMQ champions.
The European Money Quiz is part of European Money Week, which is an initiative to promote financial literacy (education) organised by the European Banking Federation (EBF) which takes place every year in March and involves more than 20 countries across Europe.
In the course of that week, banking associations in the various countries involved organise a series of activities aimed at promoting financial education to different audiences, including children and young people.
The main aim of this project is to underline the importance of more and broader financial education in Portugal and Europe, raising community awareness of the importance of adopting appropriate behaviour for current and future financial choices.
