European Money Week: 10 years promoting financial literacy

Today marks the start of another edition of European Money Week! On this occasion, the APB is organizing the National Final of the largest financial literacy game, involving over 60 schools and 100 finalists from across the country competing for a trip to Brussels.

More than 100 students, selected from 60 schools nationwide, will test their financial and digital literacy knowledge, aiming to become the national champions of the European Money Quiz (EMQ) 2024.

The National Final of this competition takes place on March 21st, at 11 AM and can be followed live on the APB's YouTube channel.

During the session, students will have to answer 20 questions on topics such as debt, family budget management, savings, payment methods, and digital security.

The winning pair of students will gain direct access to the European Final in Brussels, on April 18th and 19th, where the best of the best will compete. Schools that secure the top three spots at the European level will also receive cash prizes to invest in a financial education project.

The European Money Quiz is organized by the APB as part of European Money Week, an initiative created by the European Banking Federation (EBF) to enhance the financial knowledge and skills of European citizens. This year, the event runs from today until March 24th.

To mark the start of this week, the European Banking Federation (EBF) will host a conference tomorrow, addressing the current state of financial literacy in Europe, particularly in light of the new challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence and Digital Finance.

This conference will feature regulators, policymakers, and academics, including members of the European Parliament, European Commission, and OECD.

The European Money Week is also aligned with the Global Money Week, promoted by the OECD-INFE, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of acquiring financial knowledge and skills early in life to make more informed decisions and build financial resilience.
