About 4,000 students from grades 7 through 12 participated in 189 financial literacy sessions conducted under the initiative “No Banco da Minha Escola,” organized by the Portuguese Banking Association (APB) during the last academic year.
These sessions, led by APB, were held across 42 schools: 14 in Greater Lisbon, 14 in the North, and the remaining 14 in the Center and South of Portugal. They involved 51 volunteers from APB and 13 associated banks.
During the 2023/2024 school year, three main topics were covered:
Key questions addressed included: "When should I start saving?", "How can I save?", "What are banks for?", "How does credit work?", "What is the difference between a demand deposit and a term deposit?", and "How can I protect myself online?"
This was the inaugural edition of the initiative, which will have a second edition in the upcoming academic year.
“No Banco da Minha Escola” follows the programmatic guidelines of the Financial Education Framework, promoted by the National Financial Education Plan (PNFF), of which the APB is a member.
Since its inception in 2011, the APB’s Financial Education Project has aimed to improve the population’s financial literacy, focusing particularly on vulnerable groups such as young people and seniors.
